ABOUT ME

Sioban Timmer is a Western Australian writer who grew up in Perth’s southern suburbs. She produces stories and poetry for adults and children on a wide range of themes and conducts book readings and writing workshops for children. Sioban’s poetry has a distinctly Australian flavour and quirky, tongue in cheek humour.

Toughen Up, Princess was Sioban’s first publication and offered a new perspective on traditional fairy tales with an Australian twist.  The book is filled with delightful illustrations by local artist Alison Mutton, which adds to the local feel.

These humorous interpretations are aimed at showing another side to the story, even one we think we know very well. Many are told from the point of view of the supporting characters and encourage children to consider that we are all the star of our own story.

Poetry – Don’t be afraid is aimed at adults and sets out to prove that poetry can just be enjoyed, without needing subtitles or interpretation. The contents are easily digested and are concepts that anyone and everyone can understand and appreciate.

Feral Fergus is a humorous story about a young boy who bites his toenails with his teeth. It’s a horrid habit and it’s seriously affecting his family and social life! His stinky feet breath has everyone running from him at the school disco and even Nan passing on a kiss goodbye.  Despite the consequences and everyone’s best efforts to discourage him, Fergus persists with his toenail gnawing. What will it take to break the habit and turn Fergus’s bitten piggies into rock-star feet?
